Garth was a Financial Controller for seven years before he made the decisive move to BMO Nesbitt Burns as an Investment Advisor, following his passion to work one-on-one with people to help them create a better life. His business as an Investment Advisor has thrived because of his direct and easy way of communicating with his clients and his commitment and dedication to hard work. In just six years, he has evolved into a locally recognized leader on the investment and wealth creation scene in the Summerside area in Prince Edward Island.
Capitalizing on both his strengths and even more, on what he considered one of his biggest limitations, lack of sales experience, Garth read a mountain of books and sought out mentors to help him make the right decisions to grow his business. It didn’t take long to develop a vibrant investment practice and achieve his goals of exceeding the firm’s revenue goals while delivering a high level of service to his clients. He is extremely pleased to see his business growing at 30% to 40% per year.
Garth knows that he has a tendency to be extremely analytical, taking extra time with each of his clients to seek out ways to discover a better plan for their money. His meticulous attention to detail may not be for everyone, but it is exactly what is needed for his clientele; business owners who take a positive approach to their business and life and are interested in following a holistic approach to wealth creation and preservation. Garth is about giving back. He generously shares his time hosting meetings, organizing networking dinners, and mentoring as the President of The Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce. Currently he is actively involved with forming a group of business leaders to work along with the Government’s announcement to relocate the Department of Education from Charlottetown to Summerside. Garth is also an active member in good standing with the Certified General Accountant Association.
When Garth is not focused on his job as an Investment Advisor, he can be found coaching soccer or hockey with his two boys, Zach & Tanner, practicing the guitar, or keeping active playing squash or out running, an activity he shares with his wife, Lisa.
